While researching into my 'vintage garden' project I looked at a website called Art Culture 24. It has an abundance of information on artists, fashion, photography, and many other forms of art.

Above are images of my completed jacket. overall I have enjoyed making and most importantly learning the skills needed to make a fitted jacket. The most challenging part for me was the collar but I have learnt from this project that time and patience is key to accuracy.

This is the jacket i am currently making in the second year of university. I started this project by drafting all 18 pattern pieces. once drafted i created a lay plan on Modaris and Diamino and cut the fabric. It is unfinished but it will be completed in the next 2 weeks.

In the summer we were given the brief for our specialist practice and realisation (S.R.P). The project is to look into the eras of draping as well as modern day technique for draping. When looking into this project I realised that in fashion we plan the garments we design, make and wear around the weather of the season, but I wanted to investigate what influence nature other than the weather influences the colours, patterns and designs we wear.

So it's the start of a new year and a new term. While on summer break I was given my summer project, the theme of this was 'We work together' 'draping'. As it was a summer project I wished to base my ideas around a vintage summer tea garden. I used photos from my garden of flowers and also found vintage floral fabric to make the backing to my visual ideas board. I have very much enjoyed looking into historical references to draping and enjoying working from my garden where there is an abundance of inspiration.

overall so far this project has been the best challenge so far as it has not only challenged me to complete the pattern pieces which is not my strong point but in doing this it has improved my skills and my knowledge. I have enjoyed this project and hope that my construction skills create the look and style of the garments that i hope to create.
the final materials for my garments are 100% bamboo jersey for the top and the trousers were meant to be made out of 100% silk but unfortunately i could not perches it and had to buy 100% linen. I would prefer the silk as it is softer than linen but the linen comes pre dyed in and eco friendly way to the colours i want.

when i was researching into eco fabric i came across 2 companies the first being eco earth and the second Ada & Ina to go to there web pages follow the web addresses.

http://www.ecoearthfabrics.com/
http://www.linenfabrics.co.uk/

these are great companies and they have a great range in colours and fabrics.

These are the companies i am using to get fabric for my final garments.

Review of last term

Last term we started are design brief in which we had total freedom to what theme we wanted are projects to work from. one of the criteria's was to look at ethical and sustainable fashion, which i find a fascinating subject. when looking into this subject i found a comment quoting ' to make man-made fabrics such as nylon and polyester creates more harmful gases to the ozone layer than running a car. This got me thinking on what damage was being caused by this and what knock on effect this would have on us. once completing some research i decided to use as a theme the melting ice caps as it is not only one of the biggest problems being caused but also the biggest problem with the biggest knock on effect as it not only threatens animal life's but also human. While looking at this area of the world i chose my colour pallet of whites to blues, greens to aquas. I have enjoyed looking at this subject because i feel very strongly on ethical and sustainable fashion because if we don't start to do something then there won't be fashion in the future.

During this term we have also looked at a new subject called Lectra. I enjoyed this programme because i felt that before pattern cutting has not been a strong subject of mine but seeing it in a computerised form has helped not only my understanding of this subject but also my self evaluating skills in this project. I was proud of my result for this project and look forward to using it in future projects.

overall I feel that not only have the skills i already poses have improved greatly but also my knowledge and my written skills and i'm am glad to of made this progress as written skills is what i struggle with most.

I have decided to make the first garment shown at the bottom and have started to create the paper patterns for it. so far it has gone well and i am surprised with myself as to how much i have remembered on haw to create the patterns.

We were given our new project just before we broke up for the christmas holidays. It had to have in the project a manifesto, a completed sketchbook, a theme board, 100 designs, final 6 designs presented with fabric and trims, and a toile of fully styled outfit.

So far I have completed the manifesto and the 100 designs. I found it hard getting to 100 designs but i decided before I started who my target customer was and what my collection would be based on.

My customer was going to be a 30 - 40 year old women who lives in new york and is the CEO of a big business. the clothes I would design would have to be smart office wear but practicable as her days are very busy.

upon arrival back to our second term we instantly had a deadline for our culture project. I had enjoyed looking at this project and had chosen to look at the aztecs, for their loud prints and bright colours.

The red jumper underneath this post is an illustration of a exiting jumper from a company called David & goliath.

I found this company 3 years ago when i was in college on a trip to London. I instantly fell in love with their quirky prints and bright colors and have been looking at their merchandise since. I highly recommend you at least check out their website and look at their designs and i'm sure you will love them just as much.
